The Hardy Community Service Committee would like to send a warm thank you to all the families that participated in our service events this past week. We collected $517.91 this year for UNICEF. That is more than double what we collected last year! Thank you as well to our neighbors who kindly gave coins, bills and checks in addition to candy. Our children thoughtfully collected monies for kids around the world, many who've been victims of war, natural disasters, child exploitation or outbreaks of disease. Our school wholeheartedly supports these efforts. Not only does this tradition help kids around the world, it helps our children learn the significance of being “Trick-or-Treater Superheros” or “global citizens”, about the power they have to save lives and help kids around the world.
We also donated a total of 440lbs of candy to our troops overseas! This unfortunately wasn't enough to win the money for the PTO, but we sent some joy and tasty treats to our service men and women that are far from their families this holiday season. Thank you to all the children that selflessly donated their hard earned candy as well as to the Wellesley Dental Group for organizing the drive.
Last but not least we collected many bags of kids clothing for Cradles to Crayons. Thank you to all those that donated their gently used clothes. They are providing the essential items that children in struggling families need to thrive at school, to participate more fully in life, and to just be a kid. Thank you also to those parents, children and girl scouts that came early in the morning to collect clothing from the cars at drop off. And a big thank you to Linda Krug for organizing this wonderful annual event for us.
We are very fortunate to be a part of such a wonderful and generous community. Thank you.
