FAQs
Soon you will receive a Hardy Handbook, which will include information about Hardy and the Wellesley Public School system. Here is some of the information you may need right away:
Dropoff:
WALKERS: If you wish to walk your child to school, either from home or from having parked your car nearby, you may escort them to the rear grassy area behind the school, where they will be met by their teacher. Walking to school is an excellent opportunity to show children the crosswalks and how to steer clear of the "car line."
DRIVERS/CAR LINE: If you are driving, turn onto Hardy Road and drive around the oval, following the car line. Usually, 4-5 cars unload at a time, so if you are at the front of the line when the cars ahead of you pull away, pull up as far as you can to allow others behind you to unload curbside. Children should exit from the passenger side of the car only. If you are approaching from the North, you may only turn left onto Hardy Road if you can completely enter the street without blocking the crosswalk. Please refrain from getting out of your car to assist children, as it slows down the car line.
*** The teacher parking lot may NOT be used for dropoff.***
Pickup:
WALKERS: If walking, you may meet your child in the grassy area outside the doors facing Hardy Road.
DRIVERS/CAR LINE: If driving, place a sign card on your dashboard with your child's' name, and follow the oval to the pick up area. You may only turn left onto Hardy Road if you can completely enter the street without blocking the crosswalk. You may not wait to turn left when the cars on Hardy Road are parked up to the crosswalk and are stationary, waiting for the bell to ring and the car line to advance. If you are unable to turn, please safely turn around on a side-street or park on a side-street and walk to the WALKER pick up area.
*** The teacher parking lot may NOT be used for pickup.***
Lunch: Wellesley Public Schools have a new lunch program, which requires all students having school lunch to fund, in advance, an account for each student. Information on how to fund your child's account will be coming soon.
Snacks: Please pack a snack, as each classroom has a morning snack (no peanuts please).
Email Communications: Most school communications are delivered via email, so please ensure we have the correct email addresses for your family. Please contact Janet Rixon to ensure your email addresses are included on the list.
School Calendar: Please consult the school calendar and your child's backpack for notices about in-school events and PTO meetings. If at any point you wish to speak with your child's teacher, feel free to send a note in your child's backpack.
Assemblies: There is often an assembly on Wednesday mornings, right after dropoff, at which parents are welcome to attend.
Back to School Night: Mark your calendar now for Back to School Night, Wed., Sept. 21, 6:15 p.m., where you will meet your child's teacher(s) and hear about the curricular plans for the year.
Illnesses: If your child is ill and will not be in school, please call the Absent Line: 781-446-6225 ext. 8 (available 24 hours/day).
School Busses: If you are interested in having your child ride a bus to school, please contact Deane McGoldrick at the Transportation Department at 781-446-6210 ext 4514. Click here for more information.
Afterschool Program: Care for children in kindergarten through eighth grade is available through the WCCC afterschool program. For more information about availability and how to enroll, please click here.
School Spirit Days: occur on the first Friday of every month. Students are encouraged to wear Hardy gear or red apparel to demonstrate school spirit. Opportunities to purchase Hardy gear will be sent home via backpack soon after school begins.
Walk to School Days: Once a month Hardy participates in walk to school days. Please consult the school calendar for the exact dates, and children and parents are encouraged to walk to school from home, or from having parked at a distance comfortable for the walkers.
New Families: Welcome to Hardy! If you have any questions about being new at Hardy or the PTO, please contact Ashley Ranaldi, Welcome Committee Chair.
